Living Democracy featured as part of the European Conference in Weimar, where over 200 representatives from 22 countries discussed workshops and projects promoting democratic values and principles.
From May 7-9, the European Conference took place in Weimar under the motto “Living and Teaching European Values Today.” Hosted by the Pädagogischer Austauschdienst PAD and supported by Erasmus+, the conference featured workshops and projects promoting democratic values and principles. Representatives from over 22 countries shared practical tips and tools for integrating democratic principles, media literacy, historical awareness, and critical thinking into classrooms and Erasmus projects, all with the goal of empowering students to engage in democratic processes.

Under the motto “Valuing differences – A journey to the heart of democracy” Rolf Gollob held a keynote speech at the opening of the conference, which was followed by a workshop on Living Democracy with Gelly Aroni. Their presentation featured the interactive learning materials on democracy and human rights developed by the Department for International Projects in Education at the Zurich University of Teacher Education with teachers and experts from Council of Europe countries over the past ten years. Teachers, principals, and parents seeking practical resources find an extensive collection of free materials on democracy and human rights in 16 languages at Living Democracy.

Participants were interested in learning about these materials and took part with great enthusiasm. Specifically, German-speaking conference attendees were delighted to discover that all materials are now available in a fully functional German version of the website.
Further information on the conference, as well as the presentations, can be found on the official conference website.
